The Real Meaning of the 12 Days of Christmas

I just went to visit Faith Sisters after reading of it on Patter Cross' blog. I discovered this and found it very interesting, thought I would share.

The Real Meaning of the
12 Days of Christmas

What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won't come our of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church.

Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.

The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments
Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.
The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

On the day after Christmas....

I am loving the Figgy Pudding that Amber sent from Scrappy Girl Designs. It is rockin' my mojo. I couldn't get the spark yesterday until I pulled this out. Oh my then I was on a roll. I created a layout, card and altered item for my dt tryouts at Create My Keepsake. I really like how they all turned out. The girls are pitter pattering around the house and I am doing laundry and dishes. They seem to never end. I am enjoying my time off from work and getting a little me time in between. I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas and happy holidays to all.
Here is the card, the charm is from a broken bracelet.
This little gadget started out as a room deoderizer. Looked so much like a frame I decided that is what it would be reincarnated in to.

Yesterday was a Very Sad Day

One of the most incredible people in my life passed away yesterday. I am one lucky girl to have had such an wonderful grandmother. She not only touched my life but thousands of others. I have the most treasured gift, her great-granddaughter, her namesake, my daughter. Here is a layout I did over a year ago about her.

Technique: Eyelet Doodling

Looking for a cheap and easy way to add zip to your layout. This technique will enable you to stretch your scraps into more layouts. On this layout I used my last two sad pieces of AC Metropolitan from Oct. kit and still got a great layout. Eyelet doodling isn't what you think, or atleast not what I thought . Everyone is shying away from eyelets these days but we all have the tools, and that is all you need.

The Essentials are:
Your layout materials: cardstock, pp, and photos
Eraser
Pencil
Eyelet setter with multi holes sizes
Setting Mat

Step 1
Once you have your page design in mind, adhear papers and photos, keeping in mind where you want your eyelet doodles to go.
Sketch the doodles (or use a templete) using your pencil.

Step 2
Once you have sketched the doodle, use the larges hole punch to randomly scatter wholes along your doodle. Not to close together.

Step 3
Next use the medium and/or other size hole punches to fill in between the largest holes.

Step 4
Erase the pencil sketch carefully. Adhere a contrasting cardstock or pp to the back side of the layout, covering the holes. (this is what shows thru) this is a great time to use up some of those scraps.

Step 5
Adhere any demensional embellishments, letters etc and your layout is finished.

Supplies for this layout provided by Scrappygirldesigns.com, step by step photos shown there under Tips and Techniques and/or mini classes

I'm going to DISNEY WORLD

Well, we will be off bright and early on Monday morning (2am) to head out to the airport. We are taking our little munchins (and not so little) to Disney. This will be our first trip there and they can't wait. We will be gone for a week so I will be MIA from all of my sites. Makes me a little sad, and I know I will have SB withdrawals. I am sure this will be a great family time and we sure need it. See you all when we return!

Movie Monday 7-9

Well, I broke down and took the girls to the movies today. We saw Rat-ta-two-E (I am not French). I hate the cost of the movies, we usually wait until it is on DVD. I also had a nice surprise for me when I got home. My first DT kit from Tallyscrapper.com. The kit is great summer colors and she threw in some new Basic Grey Infusion to boot. Yummy!! Of course, I had to do a few layouts with it tonight. I am keeping this short, it is 2 am and I need to hit the hay so here they are. Night!

So I've been tagged...

So I've been tagged...
This tag comes from Minda, one of my new mates on the design team at TallyScrappers.com.

1-post these rules
2-each person tagged must post 8 random(... hopefully interesting) facts about themselves
3-tags should write a blog post of these facts
4- at the end of the post 8 more bloggers are tagged and named
5-go to their blog and leave a comment telling them they're tagged

So here goes:
1. I am a first grade teacher and have been for 10 years.
2. I am domestically challenged. I can't keep my house clean even if I tried.
3. I don't balance my checkbook. That is why dh has his own, he can't stand it. I spend until it is empty. (such a bad habit)
4. I am a recluse. I guess you could say that, my sil does. I dont' get out and socialize much. I would rather stay at home and do my own thing (scrap)
5. I am an addict. I can't stop drinking Dr.Pepper. I drink way too much, but that is just how it is.
6. I moved out of my parents house at 16, still managed to finish HS and put myself through college on my own.
7. I would love to travel more with my dh. We would like to go to Greece.
8. I use a lot of scarcastic humor, some people get it some people don't.

Thanks for the Tag Minda!

Wow this is my lucky day

Can it get any better. I just got LOTD at ScrapbookChalet.com. Thanks so much girls, I feel like I should go out and buy a lottery ticket

Lucky 7's

wow this truely must be a lucky day for me!! I was selected Star of the Day at Scrapattackscrapbooking.com and asked to be a Seasonal Designer for Paperpopsicles.com. Both of these are new sites and you should really check them out. I hope my luck continues since I have tried out for a few more DT's that I am hoping to get on with. I actually had the time to scrap the last few days. I seem to be doing a lot of pages of my mom and son. I think it is because they are really on my mind a lot these days. Isn't it funny how we subconciously do things like that. Well that is it for now. See ya later

Life's Happenings

Wow, there has been so much going on with us. We have been out of town the last two weekends. We went to my moms for Easter and can you believe that it snowed 4 1/2". That just doesn't happen in Texas. Made for some great Easter pictures to scrapbook. Last weekend, we went to Abilene to join my dad as he participated in a BBQ competition. It was fun, but cold and windy. The kids did all kinds of things from visit a Model Railroad museum, National Literacy Center exhibit of Richard Small, and Musical of the Berenstain Bears. Plenty of photos to scrap now. I have been checking out two new awesome scrapbook sites: www.webscrappin.com and www.feelingscrappy.com , go visit and tell them you read about them here. They are off to great beginnings. Can't wait to get my next kit from cutabovescrappin.com , it should be out next week. The girls there have also started a Yahoo group. So fun to chat with the rest of the design team there. Well, off to cook the dh some meatloaf. He just thinks he is starving.

For all of you with kiddos

www.FamilyWatchDog.us

When you visit this site you can enter your address and a map will pop up with your house as a small icon of a house. There will be red, blue and green dots surrounding your entire neighborhood. When you click on these dots a picture of a criminal will appear with his or her home address and the description of the crime he or she has committed.

The best thing is that you can show your children these pictures and see how close these people live to your home or school.

This site was developed by John Walsh from Americas Mo st Wanted. This is another tool we can use to help us keep our kids safe.

Please pass this on to everyone!!!

Camping

Back from camping. I took 3 of my kids on a three day camping trip at Hords Creek Lake in west Texas. We had a great time even though it got really cold at night. I was so glad that we decided to rent a cabanna when the winds got up. We would have blown away in a tent. I took a lot of great photos of the kids. They fished, rode bikes and flew kits. We enjoyed cooking hotdogs and smores. Sage calls the smores "SNORES". Can't wait to scrap the photos.

Marvelous Monday! 2-5

Wow, falling behind here! Seems like forever that I have blogged! I have been so busy. I am competing in 3 different survivor games: Scrapbook Chalet,Timeless Inspirations and Turtle Soup. Can you say I am addicted? I am also a new Design Team member for CutaboveScrappin.com. Can't wait to get busy with their kit. And then there are my kiddos. The little ones are on a roll, they keep me laughing daily! What would we do without the funny things kids say. My kindergartener has her first boyfriend. It is a hoot! The basketball season is winding down for the 13 year old. So many things going on! When is spring break? Have a good one and see you soon!

Saturday, January 13, 2007

Lazy Saturday 1-13

WOW it is cold here. We are having an ice storm. I know to some of you I am a weiner. It isn't like -20 or anything like it is for some of you, but I hate cold weather. It gives me the blues. I slept so much today, so not like me. My dh went out to a meeting today and returned with a movie. A chick flick at that. Broken Bridges with Toby Keith. It was really good. For those of you that know me I have a really hard time sitting through a movie. Too ADHD for that, but I guess the weather made me do it today. I still can't believe he chose a chick flick over football, that is equally as odd for him. :-( Sad that I was cut this week from the Scrappinwithgrace.com survivor contest. I am really proud to have made it into the top 5. I still get the honor of being March Guest Designer, can't wait for that. I am a survivor game nut. I am currently playing one on Scrapbookchalet.com and one begining soon at Timelessinspirations.com. :-( Again because my DT term at Serendipityscrapbooks.com is coming to an end, hope she chooses me to continue on. This is a fairly new site and I love being a part of the growing process. Any hoo, see ya later, keep toasty where ever you are!

Friday, January 5, 2007

Finally Friday!

Wow, the weekend is here. I am so glad, I have some serious scrapping to do. I got my awesome kits from Serendipityscrapbooks.com and can't wait to get busy. I also am excitied that I have been creating some awesome pages for the dt contest at Scrappinwithgrace.com. I can't wait till I can post them for everyone to see. Stop by and take a peek at Don't Let The Ball Drop Gallery! I am on a roll. I hope it continues since I am about to start two more Survivor type challenges: one at Scrapbookchalet.com and one at Timelessinspirations.com. I just can't get enough, I thrive on competition. Atleast that is what my coworkers say. It will also help me to reach my goal of 365 lo in the year 2007. Well off to scrap, hope everyone has an awesome weekend.

Tuesday, January 2, 2007

Work out! Whew!!!

wow, I am so tired. I just started working out again after 5 years. I have put on a few pounds after my last two kiddos and need to get back in shape. I put in 1 1/2 hours at the gym today after work. I think this may take care of the insomnia tonight. Worked up quite an appitite and it is really hard not going in there and muching down on something. I am in a weight loss challenge on Scrappinwithgrace.com. I am holding out for my team, who remains nameless at this point.

Monday, January 1, 2007

Happy New Year!

Happy 2007! Wow, seems like just a few months ago we were all worried about the new millenium! and now 7 years into it and look at how we and the world around us have changed! I have two more kids than I did then. My sister in law was quick to point out that if I would have stopped at two, I would have two teenagers about to leave home. Oh, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. Some days (well, most days) are a little crazy around my house but, I would be bored with out it. I do love a challenge. Speaking of challenges, I am about to start one at Scrapbookchalet.com and can't wait. I hope to win the Cricut, that is probably the only way I will ever get it. I am also in a wonderful contest at Scrappinwithgrace.com. Got some serious competition here, wonderfully talented scrappers. Well, I'm out of hear. Doing laundry since I have to go back to work tomorrow.
